Caroline – has now started her final and fifth year doing medicine at Glasgow University. She spent last summer in Tanzania (where she spent her Gap Year) in her medical elective – she really enjoyed that “return” and now begins her focus on her “finals”. It is hard to believe that Brian and I were leaving Caroline for her first year to Glasgow the very weekend before he was dismissed without warning at Toronto Airport by Magellan. We expect she will graduate in July 2011.
Lorraine – has completed her “A” levels with 4 “A”s. She is now studying in her second year for a Degree in Radiotherapy at the University of Ulster and is regularly undertaking placements in Belfast City Hospital Cancer unit. She also works when she has the opportunity at Boots in Ards shopping Centre.
Jackie and Brian - After the long transfer out of “Fortfield” in 2008 I am now working as a substitute teacher about ten days per month. Church work continues to take a lot of work and focus. As you will have seen in our Christmas Cards this year Brian is finally allowing us to tell more of our story about the events of the last three – four years + . So our www.fortfield.com website has been loaded with the information now (released Wednesday 23 December 2009) with his and our story.
Now is an opportune time to thank everyone who has been able to contribute to our support in so many different ways. Whilst I could acknowledge many people in particular I would like to thank the few people who have borne the brunt and time necessary to continue to help Brian in the UK/Canada, the Kennedy family (the purchasers of Fortfield) who genuinely helped in so many simple and practical ways when they learned of the actual situation, our immediate family without whose support none of us could have stayed with the process and finally, of course, our faith that this is part of our journey in this life. Thanks to you all for your support in what has been a challenging time for our family.
Many of you will now know that Brian had a serious mental breakdown (and physical exhaustion) in February 2010. He is slowly recovering and remains under treatment in the Ards mental health unit. He is slowly recovering but we have both been advised that this will take some time – both by the medical professionals and of course some of you as our medical friends.
We also celebrated our Pearl wedding anniversary (30 years) on 19 July 2010 whilst we were able to travel to London for three days for a few days away from home and let us meet some of Brian’s friends in aerospace during a couple of days at the Farnborough Airshow.
Mum’s death on 18 September 2010 was unexpected and she is sadly missed by us all. This will be keenly felt by us all now at Christmas.
2011 can only be better than 2010, D.V.
